Southern Kaduna Crisis Throwback: Governor Yakowa Pleading With Angry Protesters
This a throwback to 2011 after Governor Patrick yakowa’s convoy was blocked and stones were pelted at his convoy by protesters against the killings in Southern Kaduna.
Governor Yakowa is also from the Southern part of kaduna.
As the Late Governor pleaded with the people, there were shouts of karya ne (it is all lies)
He promised that all perpetrators will be brought to book
He also promised to visit hospitals to see the victims..
All his pleas fell on deaf hears
At a point, he had to take off his cap and pleaded, yet the agitated crowd wouldn’t listen. Someone else had to take over
The Southern Kaduna had had a long history of outbreaks of violence. Between 10,000 to 20,000 people are estimated to have died in incidents across Kaduna State since 1980, a pattern that peaked in 1992 and again from 2000 to 2002. In 2011, over 500 people were killed in southern kaduna alone after declaration of the Presidential election results.
Governor Yakowa lost his life the following year, December 2012, in a helicopter crash along with the former NSA, Gen.Owoye Andrew Azazi (rtd) while flying from Bayelsa to Port Harcourt.
